I've recently built a Xenapp 7.6 Site with two Storefront servers and two VDA servers. No printer drivers were installed on the VDA servers, and users can print fine - a policy in Studio gets them to map to their local printer. This all works great 99% of the time.
Aug 29, 2018 Install the Universal Print Server on your print servers Ensure that each print server has Microsoft Virtual C Runtime 2013, 32-bit and 64-bit installed. Navigate to the Citrix Universal Print Server download page and click Download File. Run one of the following commands on each print server.

However, I would appreciate if someone can point me to set-up scenarios for Xenapp 7.6 printing. We have one issue wherein full reports to Ricoh printers are missing characters, but if you print individual pages, the characters come out fine.
My idea is to install printer drivers for each printer directly onto each VDA server in the Machine Catalog. I need to understand how and when the Citrix Universal Printer is used, versus when a locally installed printer driver is used. I can see from 'Print Server Properties ~ Drivers' on each VDA server that the 'Citrix Universal Printer' driver has been installed by default.
For example, am I using the Citrix Universal Printer driver already when print jobs get mapped to the user's local printer? Can the Citrix Universal Printer driver be deleted and still operate? etc. I'm looking for some design articles to educate me on the various options and how they work - any help is much appreciated.
