Southern New Jersey in the late nineteenth century, from the USGS Historical Topographic Map Collection. A collection of twenty nine 15 minute (1:62500 scale) maps, cropped, color corrected and stitched into a new seamless map. These vintage topo maps didn't see much revision until the late 1930's. Packaged as a universal version that uses the free open source Mobile Atlas Creator program (for Windows, MacOS and Linux). Mobile Atlas Creator will export the area of your choice as a Custom Map for your compatible Garmin handheld GPS. It can also export maps for use in over a dozen popular apps on Android, iOS, Windows, MacOS and Linux. A detailed thirty page tutorial (written for beginners) will walk you through every step of installing and using the software. You will not find any advertising at boydsmaps.com, there's nothing for sale, you don't need to register and you won't be tracked. What you will find are over 60 gigabytes of fully-documented free maps, ready to download and use.

Southern New Jersey in the middle of the twentieth century, from the USGS Historical Topographic Map Collection. These maps replaced the older 15 minute (1:62500 scale) nineteenth century topo's and had a style that is similar to the newer USGS 7.5 minute topographic maps. This collection of twenty nine maps represent the final versions of this series, before they were replaced with the more accurate 7.5 minute topo's. Individual maps from the Historical Topographic Map Collection were cropped, color corrected and stitched into this new seamless universal format map. Distributed in Mobile Atlas Creator format (a free open source program running on MacOS, Windows and Linux). Use Mobile Atlas Creator to send your desired section of the map to your compatible Garmin handheld GPS. And it can also send the map to over a dozen popular apps for iOS, Android, MacOS, Windows and Linux. An illustrated tutorial for beginners walks you through every step of installing and using the software on your Macintosh or Windows computer. You will not find any advertising at boydsmaps.com, there's nothing for sale, you don't need to register and you won't be tracked. The USGS stopped updating their traditional topographic mapping of Southern New Jersey by 1999 and in their own words, '...no longer has either mission or funding to make maps this way'. 1999 in the Pines consists of almost 100 individual USGS 7.5 minute quads that have been cropped, color corrected and stitched together into a new seamless map of Southern New Jersey. These are the final versions of the classic USGS 24k topo maps that many people still consider the 'gold standard'. High resolution (two meters per pixel) scans of the original paper maps let you zoom in twice as far and have fewer compression artifacts than most other versions of the 24k topo's - see the comparison at the link below. Distributed in a universal format using the free open source Mobile Atlas Creator program (Windows, Macintosh and Linux versions). Mobile Atlas Creator will export any portion of the map to your compatible Garmin handheld GPS, and it can also send maps to more than a dozen popular apps on Android, iOS, MacOS, Windows and Linux. An illustrated thirty page tutorial will guide you through each step of installing and using Mobile Atlas Creator. You will not find any advertising at boydsmaps.com, there's nothing for sale, you don't need to register and you won't be tracked. What you will find are over 60 gigabytes of fully-documented free maps, ready to download and use.

Highly detailed map covering New Jersey and portions of neighboring states, including the cities of Philadelphia, New York and Wilmington. Compatible with old and new Garmin GPS devices. Works on automotive models such as the Nuvi; you can display the topo map on the screen while using City Navigator's search and routing features. Separate Windows, MacOS and Linux versions each include new 16 page illustrated tutorials written for beginners. One-click installer uses Garmin's newer .gmap format instead of the Windows registry (a common source of problems with some maps on this site). __________ You will not find any advertising at boydsmaps.com, there's nothing for sale, you don't need to register and you won't be tracked. Coverage of Southern New Jersey with portions of Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland. Extreme detail at 3 feet per pixel in the New Jersey Pinelands. Many exclusive features; 1500 miles of unpaved roads and 13,000 buildings hand-traced from aerial imagery, tax parcels, LIDAR contours at two foot intervals, 1,700 historical buildings hand-traced from the USGS Historical Topo Map Collection and more. Full hydrography from the USGS as well as NJDEP, rendered in the same style as classic USGS topo maps. High resolution forest shading and openspace boundaries. Standard GNIS Points of Interest along with NGS benchmarks, USGS stream gaging stations, extractive mining locations, and hundreds of POI's from the USGS Historical Topo Map Collection. Available in a universal format that works on Garmin handheld GPS units and over a dozen apps for iOS, Android, Windows, Macintosh and Linux. Just install the free open source Mobile Atlas Creator program on your computer and export any portion of the map for your favorite app. A thirty page illustrated tutorial, written for beginners, will walk you through every step of installing and using the software. A separate download is also avaialable in Garmin's Custom Map format for those who only want to use the map on a Garmin handheld. Just drop the files into the CustomMaps folder on your GPS. Unfortunately Garmin does not support the full feature set of the universal version and also imposes some strict limits on how much of the map you can install on the GPS. If you've never used your phone as a GPS, download the separate 'light' version of the map. An illustrated tutorial for beginners will get you up and running in just a few minutes with free trials of several popular apps. _____________ You will not find any advertising at boydsmaps.com, there's nothing for sale, you don't need to register and you won't be tracked. Want something unusual for your Garmin Nuvi? This map mimics the appearance of aerial photography on recent models. NJGIN 2007 aerial imagery was sampled every 100 feet and the most prevalent color was applied to each polygon from the NJ 2007 Land Use/Land Cover (LU/LC) dataset. It's unsual in that it consists entirely of polygons, which makes it behave like raster imagery on the GPS. Of course it doesn't have the detail level of real aerial imagery, but it's only about 85MB where the real imagery at this resolution would be around 10GB. Although it is a standard Garmin map that is technically compatible with all devices, it will only display properly on certain recent models. It is fully compatible with Basecamp and Mapsource on your computer however. For full compatibility information, visit the download link below. It is provided as three separate downloads: a Windows and a Macintosh version that install the map on your computer for use in Basecamp. A third version only includes the map file for the GPS. Linux users can use this to simply copy the map to their GPS unit.

This unique map puts real aerial imagery on your Nuvi, DriveSmart or other Garmin automotive device. 2017 NAIP imagery from the USDA Aerial Photography Field Office was converted to Garmin's traditional .img file format using the author's new technique. Over 25,000 square miles coverage with portions of 7 states, including New York City, Long Island and Philadelphia. Enable this map along with City Navigator and use all your automotive device's features while viewing aerial imagery on the screen. Includes roads and cities from OpenStreetMap, NJDOT, USGS and other sources. This map pushes the limits of what is possible with Garmin's .img format at a resolution of 96 feet/pixel. So don't expect to see fine details; it does a good job of showing what the landscape looks like as you drive around but you won't see every tree in the forest. The screenshots at the link below will give you a good idea of what to expect. Use it on your computer in Basecamp and Mapsource; easy one-click installation with separate versions for Windows and the Macintosh. A file-only version for direct installation on the GPS is also available for Linux users. Created in Garmin's newer .gmap format that doesn't rely on the Windows registry (a common source of problems with many GPSFileDepot maps). Includes a 10 page illustrated tutorial written for beginners, so you won't need to follow generic instructions on the web. Visit the link below for more information and to download the map. Although it is compatible with most Garmin devices, due to the large amount of data this map works best on recent model automotive units.

Routable maps of Capitol Reef-North, Bryce Canyon, and Zion National Parks. Map data is from USGS, NHD, Census Bureau Tiger, National Parks Shapefiles, and personal tracklogs. It was compiled with mgkgmap, the OSM compiler. Note: This version replaces one that did not render contours from 7800 ft. to 7400 ft. This was a bug in the compiler. The current map uses an older compiler which renders appropriately.

Introduction

This transparent map will allow you to add a layer to your GPS unit showing the boundaries of wilderness areas in Colorado. Use the map to see your position relative to wilderness boundaries in the field. You can use this map in conjunction with other maps, such as topo maps, you may have on your GPS unit already.

Installation

PC Version
  • Clicking on the link above downloads and runs the installer (.exe), which unzips the appropriate files to your computer and registers them with MapSource.
MAC Version
  • Clicking on the link above downloads a zip file (.zip). Unpack this zip file using Stuffit Expander (or something similar), then double-click the .gmapi file. MapManager should launch and a window should open up that says 'Install these maps?'. Click the install button and the map will be installed into Basecamp.

Version and Updates

The map version date is displayed on the initial installation screen. Maps are updated whenever new wilderness areas are added to the National Wilderness Preservation System or when older boundaries are revised. Follow us on Twitter to make sure you receive announcements about updated maps. To update to the current version of this map, uninstall the older version (use the “Uninstall” utility in the folder where you installed the maps the first time) before downloading and installing the current version from the links provided.

The legendary nineteenth century topographic maps from the Geological Survey of New Jersey by geologist George H Cook and topographer C. C. Vermeule are presented in this all-new seamless map of Southern New Jersey, processed with precision georeferencing that offers much higher accuracy than you might expect from a vintage map. Precision georeferencing involved matching over 4,000 ground control points on eight atlas sheets with high resolution contemporary data. Instead of merely aligning the overall map area, this process actually stretches and squeezes each scanned map image on the macro level to match individual roads, correcting errors on the original map. And these remarkable maps (originally created between 1885-1890) offer a wealth of detail not found on any USGS topo maps, including the twentieth century 24k maps. Landcover is depicted graphically with little trees that show the mixture of deciduous and coniferous trees in the forest. Cleared areas such as fields are also shown, including little details such as windbreaks on the perimeter. The original maps, drawn at a scale of one inch equals one mile (1:63,360) are available as 300 dot per inch scans from the New Jersey Environmental Digital Library at Rutgers University. These images were georeferenced, cropped, color corrected, stitched into a seamless map and exported at a resolution of 12 feet per pixel by the author. They were then converted to a universal Mobile Atlas Creator map. Mobile Atlas Creator (a free open source program for Windows, MacOS and Linux) can export any portion of the map for Garmin and Magellan handheld GPS units in addition to over two dozen apps on Android, iOS, Windows, MacOS and Linux. A newly-revised 60 page tutorial is included with the map. It's written for beginners and guides you through each step of installing and using the map with your favorite apps and GPS devices. For Garmin users who just want something simple, a second version of the map is also available in 'custom map' (.kmz) format. Just drag and drop the files on your GPS and head out to the woods! This version is also compatible with Basecamp and Google Earth. For maximum compatibility with Garmin's custom map format, this version was processed at a lower resolution, but it should be adequate for many purposes and it's a 75 MB download where the full 'HD' version is 2 GB. Visit the link below to view screenshots, read the documentation and download the maps. You will not find any advertising at boydsmaps.com, there's nothing for sale, you don't need to register and you won't be tracked. What you will find are over 60 gigabytes of fully-documented free maps, ready to download and use.

East Fort Rock OHV Trail System Garmin Routable map which is color coded the same as the typical pdf file available onlne. This should be a transparent map so you should be able to overlay it on your topo's. I searched high and low for gps data on this trail network to no avail. Decided to make my own though everyone says the trails are well marked, there is nothing like being able to see your selected route highlighted or hearing turn by turn directions. I used the GIS data available online from the Deschutes National Forest Service, processing through probably 4 or 5+ different programs. So anyone who uses it please let me know the acurracy or problems, as I hope to get out there for the first time this summer.

Elk Slope-Cover v4(overlay) is derived from 10 meter digital elevation data. We based this model on data that shows elk seem to prefer sloped terrain between 15%-30% and secure forest cover with a canopy of 75-99%. We clipped the slope data to include only areas of >75% canopy cover where elk seek secure shelter from weather and predators. Whether you're a novice hunter or a seasoned veteran of elk country, this elk slope-cover model will allow you to view the landscape in a whole new way. The Elk Slope Preference model overlay comes bundled in our Hunting & Fishing Combo mapset.

2012 orthophotography was mapped onto vertically exaggerated 3 meter (1/9 arc second) LIDAR DEM terrain to create a three dimensional effect revealing features not usually visible in the flat South Jersey landscape. This probably sounds confusing, so just visit the link below and you'll see exactly what to expect. This map is similar to 'LIDAR in the Pines Classic', but it uses newer aerial imagery at higher resolution. It also covers a larger area and includes paved roads with route numbers to help orient you. But each version has its own advantages in terms of how it depicts the terrain. Offered in a universal format that uses the free open source Mobile Atlas Creator (available for Windows, Macintosh and Linux). Mobile Atlas Creator can export any part of the map for use on your Garmin handheld GPS. It can also export maps for over a dozen Android, iOS, MacOS, Windows and Linux apps. An illustrated thirty page tutorial - written for beginners - will guide you through each step of installing and using the software. You will not find any advertising at boydsmaps.com, there's nothing for sale, you don't need to register and you won't be tracked. What you will find are over 60 gigabytes of fully-documented free maps, ready to download and use.

LIDAR in the Pines covers most of Southern New Jersey with aerial imagery mapped onto vertically exaggerated 3 meter (1/9 arc second) LIDAR DEM terrain. This reveals a many features that wouldn't otherwise be noticeable in the flat Southern New Jersey landscape. If this sounds confusing, just visit the link below where the screenshots are worth several thousand words! The map is available as two separate downloads: the original 2015 Garmin Custom Map version provides files you can simply drop into the CustomMaps folder on your compatible Garmin handheld GPS. These files can also be used in Garmin Basecamp and Google Earth. It is also availalble in a new universal version that uses the free open source Mobile Atlas Creator on your Windows, Macintosh or Linux computer. Mobile Atlas Creator allows you to export any portion of the map for use on Garmin and many iOS, Android, Windows, Macintosh and Linux apps. It's actually more versatile for Garmin users than the older Custom Map version since you can choose your precise area of interest. The older Custom Map version forces you to load entire USGS quads. You will find full documention for both versions at the link below, including a 30 page tutorial (written for beginners) that walks you through the installation and use of Mobile Atlas Creator on both Windows and Macintosh. You will not find any advertising at boydsmaps.com, there's nothing for sale, you don't need to register and you won't be tracked. What you will find are over 60 gigabytes of fully-documented free maps, ready to download and use.

This all-new colorful map of Southern New Jersey reveals a remarkable amount of surface detail using the newest LIDAR DEM (Digital Elevation Model) data from the USGS 3d Elevation Program (3DEP). One meter LIDAR is the new USGS standard and coverage is still limited, but everything currently available is included here. This new imagery has nine times the resolution of the older 1/9 arc second LIDAR from the National Elevation Dataset (NED). The older LIDAR is used for areas without one meter coverage, but it's rendered at higher resolution with new shading to bring out more detail than my earlier LIDAR based maps. The map is easily installed in Mobile Atlas Creator (a free open source app) on your Windows, Macintosh or Linux computer where you can then export any area for Android, iOS, Windows, MacOS and Linux apps. 60 pages of all-new documentation are included. Written for beginners, it has over 100 illustrations to guide you through each step of installing and using Mobile Atlas Creator with the map. A total of 13 desktop and 14 mobile apps are covered, including a comprehensive tutorial for Garmin handheld units. There's even a section for using the map with OziExplorer CE on older Windows CE based automotive devices such as those made by Magellan, Navigon, Mio others. There's much more information at the link below, where you can read the documentation, look at screenshots and download the map. Due to the amount of detail and quality level, this is a big download - about 15gb - so just be patient and give it time to finish. You will not find any advertising at boydsmaps.com, there's nothing for sale, you don't need to register and you won't be tracked. What you will find are over 60 gigabytes of fully-documented free maps, ready to download and use.

This new map of Southern New Jersey is a lower resolution version of my LIDAR in the Pines HD, converted to Garmin's traditional map format. The source data for the map is 1/9 arc-second LIDAR imagery from the USGS 3D Elevation Program (3DEP). LIDAR (LIght Detection And Ranging) is a system for laser-scanning the surface of the earth to produce a very accurate Digital Elevation Model (DEM) of the terrain. The raw data can be processed in different ways to create maps of 3d terrain. The custom shading used for this map is specially tuned to the flat South Jersey terrain, revealing subtle details that are normally lost in other maps of the region. Since it's not as detailed, this map is only 400 MB while LIDAR in the Pines HD is a 15 GB download. The map also has simple one-click installation for Garmin Basecamp, with separate versions for Windows and the Macintosh. A third version provides the compiled .img file for easy drag and drop installation on a GPS device, avoiding the Garmin MapInstall problems that have been extensively discussed in the GPSFileDepot forums. Each version has its own all-new illustrated tutorial, written for beginners. LIDAR in the Pines SD is the first in a series of maps based on my new digital model that covers South Jersey with a grid of over 60 million 48ft x 48ft (15m x 15m) cells. This model can represent any kind of map imagery by just changing the colors of the grid cells. And each cell can also contain additional data, such as the spot elevations in this map. The resulting dataset is easily converted to Garmin .img files. The unique way the map was created places a heavy demand on a GPS device however. It has been road-tested extensively on a Garmin DriveSmart 61, but it did not work properly on an older unit. Technically, it is compatible with all Garmin devices, however it is only recommended for the newest automotive models. You'll need to do your own testing to see if it works on your device. But you'll still find it useful on the computer even if you don't have a compatible GPS unit. Basecamp has no problems with the map and you can zoom and drag the map around smoothly. As you move the mouse pointer around, the elevation of each grid cell is displayed. The roads, streams and elevations are also displayed on top of your Garmin BirdsEye imagery if enabled. And this map is fully compatible with Garmin's older Mapsource software. LIDAR in the Pines SD should be of special interest to Garmin users who are reluctant to adopt the Mobile Atlas Creator software used for the other maps on my website. With a quick download and a few mouse clicks you can have real LIDAR imagery in Basecamp! Visit the link below to view screenshots, read the documentation and download the map. You will not find any advertising at boydsmaps.com, there's nothing for sale, you don't need to register and you won't be tracked. What you will find are over 60 gigabytes of fully-documented free maps, ready to download and use.

This Garmin GPS map-set contains lake-depth contour maps of many many hundreds of Minnesota USA lakes. 1159 lakes to be exact. With 5ft. to 20ft. contours-intervals being typical. Some shallow lakes and bays having even smaller contour intervals of 1 ft. This is a transparent map so you may load it into your GPS unit along with other maps and then using your GPS device's 'Map Setup' options to Show or Hide it overlaid on your other map- sets. It works particularly well when used in conjunction with the free high-resolution Minnesota 24K Topo map from www.gpsfiledepot.com. With this lake-depth map being transparent it then allows all the contour lines of all islands from the topo map to show through properly.

I have just updated this map to version 3.0. Major changes are: Added 25+ new tracks. Added 40+ new wpts. Added a lot of trail parking/staging areas. Modified and improved wpt symbols on map. Improved accuracy of several tracks. Added Hwy 191 & 313. Added boundaries of Dead Horse Point State Park. This is a self-installing transparent map of a 1000 miles and 138 of the most popular trails in the Moab area. It has 312 waypoints, including Trailheads, obstacles, scenic overlooks, parking, etc. The trails are difficulty color coded via several sources including the Charles Wells Moab book and various off-roading websites. The boundaries of Arches and Canyonlands National Parks are also shown. The original track file can optionally be installed in the chosen directory along with the color coding scheme and instructions on how to get Mapsource and install map onto GPSr. This map is provided for general navigation only. Riders should research trails that are to be ridden and get local maps that show where you can and cannot ride. Never ride alone.

The MT Topo + Forest Cover 2018 basemap contains our topo, road, and point of interest data combined with areas of forest cover. We've broken forest cover into two types, 15-50% canopy cover (shows as light green) and 50-99% canopy cover (shows as a darker green). But we didn't stop there! We've added special coloration for forest areas within USGS Geomac fire polygons. Drop a map pin within a fire polygon and you'll see the year it burned! Great info for determining habitat and succession stage in your hunting areas! This mapset can be purchased separately or can be bundled with other maps in our Hunting & Fishing Combo map package.

These are transparent maps that show up on top of City Navigator which you still use for route calculation. They have topo lines and hydrology (streams, rivers, lakes, etc). The topo lines are from the USGS and they are more accurate than what is on the 24K USGS maps. I generally use a 10 foot contour interval. The hydrology is high resolution (equal to or better than the 24K USGS). Some places do not have the high resolution data). I have also done lots of corrections to the hydrology by looking at ExpertGPS, Google Earth, and field checks. What it looks like in the GPS is City Navigator with topolines and much better hydrology. This is great for caching as many times it helps you figure out how to get to a cache as you can see the terrain and where the water is. That makes it easier to figure out how to get to a cache as a straight line is not always the best way.

******** Paiute ATV Trails 2013 ******** This is a very accurate map of the Paiute ATV Trails along with some of the more popular trails that are encompassed by the Paiute Trail System. A lot of these trails were recently ridden and tracked. These tracks were cleaned up using Google Earth. The trails are numbered per the latest National Geographic #708 map. There are no longer any duplicate trail numbers. Gary Bushman (aka: ATVUTAH.com) helped with some of the trail updating and accuracy. The map includes accurate locations of the gas stations and restuarants in the cities that are within the Paiute Trail System. The restrooms along the trail system have also been accurately located. When installing the map you will have the choice to install the original map gps tracks onto your computer. This is useful if you want to view the tracks in Google Earth. When installing please read the color coding scheme.
